Fun Ways to “Summer-up” Your Home

Every summer tends to bring with it a sense of excitement. It seems like this summer “energy” started when we were young. I’m sure we can all recall getting out of school for two and a half months of freedom. As a kid there was nothing more exciting than summer vacation. As adults we may not be able to get off work and run through the sprinkles all day, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have a little fun.

Here are a few simple ways to summer-up your home, and bring back that feeling you had as a kid:

  • Fix Up the Pool– If you own a pool, it will probably be one of the first things on your mind once things start

warming up. Now is the time to make sure that the water is clean and that all chemical levels are safe for swimming. Or if you want to upgrade you may consider adding a slide or diving board to your existing pool. Both options create a fun attraction that can make your pool feel new again.

  • Tint Those Windows– Extreme temperatures can bring extreme electric bills. Don’t let the warm weather affect your pocket book to the point where you can’t enjoy yourself because you’re stressed about paying for air conditioning. Several companies offer window tinting that can drastically reduce the amount of heat that your windows allow in, and lower your electric bill. You also should consider putting up light-proof window treatment which can block over 90% of incoming light.
  • Create Outdoor Living– Summer is a time to be outside and enjoy the sun. Make sure you have some good patio furniture that you can entertain with and relax on.
  • Get a Hammock– Nothing says summer vacation like a hammock and some lemonade. Most hammocks are very simple to hang and once it’s up you can sit back, relax, and watch the clouds go by.
  • Plant a New Garden– Summer time calls for new plants in the garden. When you go shopping for new plants ask the salesperson which type of plants will do well in your area’s climate.
  • BBQ– A new grill is an excellent way to renew your enthusiasm for summer. Invite the friends over for some fresh grilled food and you’ll be the life of the party.
  • Make a Fire Pit– Fire Pits are pretty easy to do yourself and make for fantastic evening events. You can enjoy roasting marshmallows, making smore’s, or just relaxing by the open flame. A fire pit will be sure to keep the good times rolling.

You could easily pick 2-3 items on the list and “summer-up” your home.  As well if you are planning on selling or renting your home in the future, by upgrading some of the existing features you can add value to your property. Even planning to make changes for summer can be fun. If you have a children give them some options and see what they might like. With some planning and consideration you could end up with something the whole family loves.
