It has been four days that we have been counting on this furnace and my husband is gone during day. I successfully kept it going until today and the house is down to 60 already. I have newspapers, kindling and seasoned hardwood that is dry and small and no reason besides inexperience on why I can't accomplish this. I open the damper and as paper burns I set the small kindling strips and then the heavier 1/4 of a log I get close but the kindling won't even stay lit. And its dry, my husband has no issues with it so its me. I can't talk to him til tonight. Any help?

Robert,

Hi, I am in the same situation and we are in desperate need of some addition form of heat to help out our 40 yr old gas heater. I went and looked at he model you mentioned. I was wondering if you were required to purchase the surround considering the narrow opening of the old coal burning fireplaces. Do you mind sharing your total cost? Thanks for any help!

Chuck, I was in the same situation as you. Check out the Lennox C210. It is only 12 1/4 deep and will fit in yor fireplace. 75000 btu,s, No gaskets to fail, stainless steel construction. Great reviews. It does stick out onto the Hearth so you might have to extend the hearth pad a little as did I. They are coming to install it on friday of this week. I just cant wait. Good luck.

You said that inserts can be custom fitted. I have looked every where and nobody can fit my 68 year old coal burning fireplace dimensions. I want a wood burning insert. The dimensions are:

outer width: 29"
outer height: 29 11/16"

bottom depth left and right side: 17"
bottom center depth: 15"

top depth right side: 14"
top depth left side: 13 13/16"
top center: 13 1/2"

Both the top and bottom "V"s outward from the back to the front...nightmare.

Please help.

Thanks for your time.

Good luck.
