One more thing,
in my state, lag bolts are required to be staggered at 16" centers. Place bolts 2" from top and bottom of ledgers with a width of 6"

Hi Sergio,
In my region, 1/2" x 5" lag bolts are suitable. For simple patios,
The formula is thickness of ledger board + thickness of finish material on wall + 2 1/2" for stud penetraition; however, since code differ from state to state, why don't you go down to your local Building Dept. and pick up there patio handouts. Handouts are available at most building depts. for commonly done projects and typically include all the info you need to complete your project withen local or state codes.

Hi Boss,
question:I'm going to build a small patio cover on the side of the house.A ledger board will be attached to the side wall wich is cover with stucco.I'll find the studs.
Question:what size of lag screws should I use?
do they have to be place staggered(1 screw for stud) or I can place 2 on each stud.
The ledger boards will be a 2x6x8
Thanks.

Hi Sergio, it really depends on where you live and your climate conditions. I would suggest you check with local contractors and/or suppliers to see what decking material they recommend and also to compare costs before you purchase your materials. Good luck with your project!

Hi there,
you mention on this article that oak or redwood should be good choices of wood, and at the same time you said that any wood that is left to the elements should be pressure treated.
I'm about to start my patio cover project, and I'm being more incline to use rough cut redwood, wich is sold around here at Lowe's,but that comment left me wondering if I'm choosing the right material.
What's your opinion boss ?

I must say, I could not agree with you in 100%, but that's just my opinion, which indeed could be very wrong.
p.s. You have an awesome template for your blog. Where did you find it?
