Bedroom Decorating Ideas for Teen Girls

Teen Girl’s Bedroom Decorating

A teenager’s room is her kingdom and decorating it should be a project that reflects that much importance.

No girl wants to keep the rocking chair mom loved so much or the little hand-painted kid’s dresser she adored at five forever. It is only natural that as a girl matures into a woman her tastes and interests are changing and she wants to make her room reflect those changes.

Whether you’re a mom looking for ideas to decorate your teenage daughter’s room or a teenager working on a new look for your own bedroom, read on to learn more about managing this important project!
Choose your color scheme to be complementary and you will like your room a lot more if you do not overdo the use of colors!

Planning Your Teen Girl Bedroom

The first thing to do is to create a plan. Measure the dimensions of your bedroom; you want to know the width, height, and length and draw the floor plan. Decide which furniture you will keep and which you want to replace. Some items may be “recycled” by painting or otherwise redecorating the appearance; you’ll be amazed what a coat of faux paint, stencils and new drawer pulls can do to change the look!

Clean out your bedroom and get rid of anything you don’t want or need. You can have a garage sale and raise some funds for your bedroom decorating project. Anything left over after that you can donate to a charity organization or give to siblings and friends.

The bed is often used as a focal point in designing a bedroom. Note that the color red is used on one wall and the art space above the bed, complementing the light blue bed set.

Teen Girl’s Bedroom Furniture

Pick a bed that fits the theme you’ve selected for your teen girl bedroom. A do-it-yourself headboard can be a fun and inexpensive part of your bedroom decorating project. If you can’t buy a new bed, think of creative ways to decorate your old headboard, add a sheer curtain or canopy.

Another nice feature to consider is a sitting area; whether you decide on a comfy chair, a desk and desk chair, a small sofa or loveseat or even a couple of bean bag chairs you can store in the closet when not needed.

If you like to have sleepovers a small futon or trundle bed with a pull out mattress is convenient. Of course, leaving open floor space for sleeping bags works fine too!

Once you’ve decided on the major pieces of furniture you want in your room, draw them on the floor plan. You might want to try making several drawings so you can consider various layouts before finalizing where you want everything to go.
Before you begin the decorating phase of the project you might even want to place furniture and try more than one layout to see which arrangement you like best.

Teen Girl’s Bedroom Theme and Focal Point

Next, decide on a theme and focal point for your room; often times the bed may be the focal point, but it could also be a makeup table, window seat or other design feature. Remember to keep things in scale; if you have a small room and you pick a king-size bed you may not have enough room left over for other important features.

Themes can come very naturally depending on your interests and taste, but having some theme will give your room a more cohesive design. A theme could be based on your favorite movie or music stars, sports, animals or it could be based on a particular style of décor such as modern or art deco, country or traditional Victorian décor, etc.

Consider the types of activities you tend to like doing in your room. You’ll want a space to study and do homework, put on make up and get dressed, a place to curl up with your favorite book, etc. Every teen girl has to decide what activities are most important in her room.

Plan for plenty of storage space; the easier it is to keep things organized, the simpler it is to keep your room neat and tidy without making cleaning a big chore. Closet organizers, under-bed storage and a tall chest of drawers are a just a few possible ways to keep stuff organized. You need a place to keep your shoes organized, a place to put clothes for laundry and a trash can.

Organize drawers and storage space so that like items are kept together; make it as easy and simple as possible to keep your room neat and you’ll like it a whole lot more than if you have dirty clothes, shoes and junk thrown all over the room!

Choosing Teen Girl Room Colors

While any girl wants to use her favorite colors for bedding, window treatment, area rug, etc. remember that too many colors will confuse and overwhelm the eye; try to pick no more than two primary colors and two accent colors. Any more than about four colors and your bedroom will start to look garish.

Lighter colors and hues will make a room look bigger, while darker colors can add drama. Try to use the same hues within the colors you select, going with lighter, softer pastels or contrasting bright shades of the colors you like.

Look at lots of pictures in books, magazines and online, watch a couple of home decorating shows on TV, go to a design center and talk with others to get ideas and pick the color scheme that’s just right for your new teen girl’s bedroom décor!

Design Patterns and Refrains

Remember that pattern makes a huge difference in how you use colors for walls, artwork, fabrics, etc. a pattern or design element that is repeated is called a refrain, and just as in music, the use of a memorable refrain is a key ingredient in achieving a successful interior design. Some suggestions for a refrain or pattern can include:

  • Flowers or a floral pattern
  • Polka dots or circles
  • Stripes or plaids
  • Fluffy white clouds on a blue background
  • Sun, moon, stars or other natural subject

Teen Girl Comforters and Bed Linens

Once you have your furniture arrangement, theme and colors worked out, its time to start selecting your decorative elements. The nice thing about bedding is that it can be a relatively inexpensive way to add color and style; as your tastes change, you can alter the look of your bedroom by changing the comforter, sheets and pillow covers.

Walls and Curtains

Painting is a big project, so be sure to learn proper technique, how to mask off and cover the floors properly, etc. if you are painting your bedroom walls. Mom won’t be pleased if you get overspray on the carpet, furniture, etc. and it may be best to make this one a collaborative effort!

Be sure the colors are happy; while black or dark purple walls might seem cool at first, you may find it depressing if you overdo it. If you want something that really stands out, you might select just one wall to use that color or do a collage or art on that wall, leaving the other walls either neutral (white or off white) or with lighter color shades.

For window treatments, you want to remember that privacy is important, so while a frilly white lace curtain may look good, you want something like a window blind or shade behind it so that you have more flexible control over light and privacy.

Teen Girl Bedroom Accessories

A book case or wall shelf makes a great place to display special items such as photos and memorabilia.

Once you have furniture, wall colors, curtains, bedding, etc. all worked out, its time to consider some accessories; this is like putting on jewelry and make up when getting ready to go out. Accessories can be the most fun part of decorating your bedroom!

While mom often has a major say in whether you can afford a new bed or whether the wall colors you chose are acceptable, a reasonable mom will let her teen girl pick the accessories herself!

Lamps can add a nice touch and you can work together to create a unique lampshade. Remember you want good overall ambient light; a ceiling light fixture will generally do the trick. Task lighting is important for your desk or reading and sitting area. Accent lighting can be added by using a small lamp on night tables, dressers or vanities. Or try using rope lights to add some accent lighting.

A book case or book shelves will give you a good place to keep books and display photos, prize possessions, awards, etc. A decorative jewelry box is a must have accessory in most teen girls’ room.

One trick to keep in mind when it comes to accessories is not to clutter the look of your room too much; if you have more items than you can display all at once, try rotating items every few weeks. This will give you an easy way to change and update your bedroom décor over time.

Some other teen girl bedroom accessory ideas include:

  • Look for interesting objects you can display on walls and/or shelves; scarves or swags, clothing items, album covers, books, memorabilia …. whatever fits the style and theme you are trying to achieve.
  • Make your own lampshade by using a glue gun and/or staple gun to attach patterned fabric to a plain lampshade; if you pick the right sheer fabric and pattern you can achieve very interesting patterns of light and shadow on the walls and ceiling.
  • Use a vase to create your own floral arrangement; use faux plant and flower products from your local craft store or even a live plant or two if you want your room to look more natural and add a splash of greenery and color.
  • Put a large, cork bulletin board on the wall you can use to pin up important notes, a calendar, a collage of magazine photo cutouts, etc.
  • Use panels of sheer curtain material attached to the ceiling over the center of your bed and drape them casually to the floor around the bed to create an inexpensive canopy.
  • Foam core sheets can be cut and painted to create interesting wall art without having to paint the walls.
  • A large floor standing mirror in a corner or wall mirror over the vanity is important in any girl’s room and can make a great focal point for the room.
  • Small details like funky drawer pulls, door knobs, light switch and electrical outlet cover plates and decorative baseboard, crown molding, chair rail, etc. can really make your bedroom design pop.

Shopping Around

Shop around to find the best deal on items you really want such as this vanity and mirror set, which will make a great focal point!

Remember that you can do things without spending a ton of money. Go online and look at items, making a list and then prioritizing it; at first you’re just shopping so there’s no harm in looking at items with a range of prices.

Use Microsoft Word or a paper notebook to write down notes and create a collage of what your room will look like; this way you can consider possibilities and see how various ideas might work before committing to making purchases.

Once you zero in on the items you really want, you can shop various online stores and local shops to find the best deals on the things you want. For example, you may see a bedroom furniture set you really like at an expensive boutique and then find something similar at a discount retailer like Ikea, Target or Wal-Mart that looks almost as good for a fraction of the price; it really pays to shop around!

Girl Teen’s Decorating Tips

For Teen Girls:

  • Be sure to consult your parents before re-decorating your room; check with them before painting or you could cause an outright war over the entire project.
  • Remember that decorating costs real money; don’t insist on having all the most expensive items.
  • Be willing to negotiate with mom and dad; if you can’t have the super-expensive bed you wanted perhaps you can compromise on something nice that costs less.
  • Seek advice; remember that it takes years to become a professional interior designer so expect you will make mistakes. For example, your favorite colors may not all go well together when picking a color scheme for your bedroom!
  • You want your bedroom to look unique; it should reflect your personality, likes and interests, but be careful not to pick elements that you might hate in a few weeks or months!

For Moms with Teen Daughters:

Wall collages are a great way to add color and interest to your teen girl bedroom that reflects your personality and tastes!

  • Try to remember what it was like when you were a teenager. Listen to your daughter with empathy before summarily dismissing any of her decorating ideas.
  • Use the bedroom decorating project to help your teenager learn concepts like project planning, budgeting and interior design; make this a fun project you can work on together but let her own the project.
  • Let your daughter try planning and setting a budget for her “dream” room first. Once you both know the total cost and what would be involved, it will be easier to begin negotiating toward a mutual agreement.
  • Encourage your daughter to put as much time into planning and consideration as actual decorating; let her know you support her efforts and appreciate how important the project is to her.
  • Remember that any decoration is just temporary; you can always repaint the walls later!

wat if ur mom wont change ur furnite nd it cant be paitned. hiw do i work with that

    • Meg says:

Hi Lauren, and i think I’ve got an idea to help! If u really want you walls painted, but the rents are saying no, try this: ask your parents if u can have wallpaper! you can get really cool prrints, and u can even get cool fur wallpaper!awesome! And if that’s not working w/ them, ask them if you can purchase some fabric (available @ any craft store in zillions of colors and prints) and cover your walls w/ it. All you’d have to do is take sum measurments of your room’s walls, then buy the right ammount of fabric (w/ a parents help), and cut it to size, then yuse a staple gun, or some large tacs/nails, and hang it up! And if that still isn’t working, then there are plenty fo ways u can add color and style to your room! One way to bring in color, would be to add some colorful accesories to your room. If you have a color scheme in mind, then follow it you can buy colored frames, or paint plain white ones to hang pics on ur walls. Another, would be to display some, colorful knick knacks u have lying around, on a shelf in your room- or table tops! Another way to add color, wouldbe in your bedding. and if it’s a no-go for new bedding, add colorful pillows and maybe a throw blanket! u can also put pillows on any seating areas in ur room. be creative! Lastly, add a bright, fun rug! That’ll make your walls pop more, and it’ll be a focal point in the room, it’ll be the foundation of the design! I hope these ideas help!

    • ad says:

u could put a nice blanket over a couch or chair to make it look nicer

    • Lolo says:

Just get stuff to match it

  2. Youngsters are trying on nothing less than their own self definitions when they embark on a room redecoration, so be patient. You can be a big help in minimizing impulsive decisions your child may regret without making your intervention into a power struggle. Try playing interior decorator with your child as the client: When a few choices have been identified, tape fabric and paint swatches and photos of selected window treatments, accessories, etc., on a large piece of white poster board. Your child will be able to see at a glance what works and what doesn’t. If you find it too confusing to pull all their likes together in a visually coherent way, keep in mind that, in general, preteens and teens want either a very dramatic room

  3. ghiouu says:

where did u get that zebra striped wallpaper!!! please tell me

    • Meg says:

i don’t know where they got it, but check amazon! Ghiouu. By the way, how in the world do you pronounce your funkilishis name! It’s ridonkulous!

    Hello.
I have a really really small room.
And I want to make it well ME!!
So… I was wondering how make would I make more room??

    Please & thanks :)

    • Jade says:

put mirrors on your wall this gives the effect that the room is bigger than it actually is. Lighter colors make the bedroom look bigger.
Don’t clutter it with things you don’t need (ie.fruton)

    • Sydney says:

you can just add a little ferniture or a little bit of you in your room …..well what im really tryin to say is dont crowd it too much and trust me its gonna look like huge[p.s-gone through it when i had to share my new room for 2 months with my pesky little bro since his room was way not ready.. GOOD LUCK!!!:)

    • Meg says:

Since you don’t have much room Ciarra, why don’t you add a dash of your own personality to the walls? If you are artistic, frame and hang up some of your favorite masterpieces. You could also hang up artsy posters, or posters of your fave celebs. If you are Very “Family and Friend Oriented”, then frame some pics of you and your friends & fam together, and put them up as well. Whatever you like, there is always wall space, even if the floor is packed. Also, adding mirrors to your walls will make your room appear more spacious, as well as help you get ready in the morning! I hope these ideas help!

    • xiara says:

well try to make it a lil simple like all you need would be your closet a cute bed a vanity and mirror set an end table and some book shelves [to put stuffed animals etc.] and the rest is well your style!!!

      • megan says:

i would actually not reccomend the black because i had pink and black and after a while it got boring and dark. maybe pink and purple with a light green or pink with a brown or pink and turqoise with out purple.

    • lola says:

      heck yes

    • Meg says:

Yeah, those colors would look gr8! i suggest however, that you use a light, bubblegum pink, along w/ lilac purple, and light turquoise accenting. That’s really make your room pop!

  9. Kyra says:

oh, and I can’t have my walls painted either.

    • megan says:

try to add colors and patterns by taking a wood frame and put fabric patterns over it you like that match. Also add fabric pillows with patterns and colors that match too. accessorize with fake flowers and vases that you have and make floral patterns/arrangements. decorate with pics. of you with friends and family, get some framed. if your christian type fave bible verses and hang them around your room. simple things that don’t cost much at all obviously!!’

  15. Ashlee says:

I have ugly reddish brownish colored carpet that I am not allowed to remove and brick walls. What should I do???

    PLZ HELP

    • Rafter Tales says:

You can use a floor mat or area rug to help hide the ugly brown carpet. Brick walls could be the inspiration for something very creative or you could use large posters, a cork bulletin board, etc. to hide the bricks. Get creative and you’ll be surprised how cool you can make your room look even with the limitations you mention!

    • megan says:

just accessorize alot to add color and your own syle by covering the carpet with an inexpensive rug, fabrics, art, colored bedding, and pillows!

    • Meg says:

Well Ash, since you can get rid of the brick, i sugest you cover it up! You can go to any fabric store, and purchase various colors and patterns of fabric in large ammounts too. With your parents help, just measure the length, width, and height of your walls, and then you’ll be ready to buy the fabric. Go to the store, and tell the service person what you exactly want to do and the measurements of your walls, and they’ll gladly help you find the right ammount of fabric. Keep in mind, that when you get the fabric home if it’s not just the right size you can cut it down to size. If you don’t have some, just get some special fabric scissors @ the store. Once the fabrics all set, with a parents help, you are ready to hang the fabric. You can use a staple gun, or large tacs/nails that are strong enough to go through the brick and stay. As for your floors, you could purchase a wall-to-wall area rug. Just take measurements of your floors as you did w/ your walls, and then you’ll be ready to buy the rug. I suggest you get one from pbteen.com. They have rugs in various colors and patterns, as well as many different sizes. Just a tip b4 i go, I suggest you stick to a pre thought out color scheme for your walls and floors. Other then that, I hope you enjoy the ideas, and luv your new room!

    • xiara says:

well you should make it countryish like buy the bed sheets reddish brown make it look relaxing buy some rugs buy some candels

  16. Klaine says:

hi, i’m klaine. i’m turning 13 this july. i really REALLY want to decorate my room, i want to make it girly and creative bcos it’s so plain with white walls and brown wall panels or wutever u call it. i have a small room and theres not much space to put more drawers cos when we moved in, there were cabinets and stuff that attached in my room that’s why there’s no space left except for my bed. in short – i have a small room with a small space (lol duh) and i want to decorate it. can u help me please?? i need some ideas. puh-leasee!! I AM REALLYYY DESPERATE.

  17. Klaine says:

uhm.. and my cabinets are painted pink but the other half is light blue bcos my younger brother and i share the room. so i cant actually make the room look really girly or else my younger brother will complain and my mom will nag at me… i like the theme of the 2nd picture. the blue bed and red wall and a white carpet. not much girly and simple but pretty. can u give me some tips and ideas to make my room look like that?? please?? pretty please??=) i hope u’ll reponse!:D

    • Meg says:

Klaine, I have the perfect idea so you can have your dream girly room! If your brother likes blue, adn your okay w/ it, you can buy a blue curtain from pbteen.com, and hang it up to divide the two halves of thr room! They do have the curtain available in pink, but i suggest you stick to blue bcuz of what u said about your younger bro. Although, you could ask him, or maybe he’d like another color, cuz they have plenty. The good news, is that blue or any of the other colors he picks, would all go GREAT w/ a girly color like pink- if that’s the color you had in mind. You could have pink as the Priority color, and blue – or whatever cutain color you get- as the accent color, so it wouldn’t look out of place. Another added bonus about the curtain, is that if your bro decides to have a messy room, you don’t have to look @ it! Now, you can be as creative and girly w/ your half of the room as you like! I suggest you check out all the cool girly pink stuff they have on pbteen.com! I’m sure you’ll see plenty of things you’d like-I do every day when I go on! Enjoy!

  18. Aly says:

I really want to redecorate my bedroom! Do you have any suggestions about: colour scheme, carpeting, painting ect…?

    • Meg says:

Well, aly if u can give me a little info about u, I think i can help. What are your favorite colors? Out of the coors u name, star the ones u like the best- those we’ll be the primary colors (2 tops), and the others will be the accent colors (2 tops). Even if the colors u name don’t work together well, there’s always a way to make it work bcuz of tone and shading. So just reply me on that, and then i can help you get started, bcuz color scheme is key when planning a new room design. Reply Soon!

  19. Farah says:

I have a pinkish orangish room, it’s medium sized, and white walls and a beige bed frame…should I paint my walls light orange with light pink polka dots? how can I do this with lots of pictures on the walls and near the walls? I also have expensive carpeting…how can I easily paint my room to my likings??

    • Meg says:

Farah, you have some Gr8 ideas, and I think i can help u put them to work. First of all, do you want small or big polka dots? I’ll warn you that a few little polka dots will be under-doing it. On the other hand, a lot of small polka dots will seem overwhelming, and messy. So i suggest u go w/ larger polka dots. If you go w/ that, you could put framed pics to size inside the pola dots. It will offer a defiance to the room and if you do that on just one wall in the room, it will become a focal point. If u have expensive carpeting, you are going to want to cover it up. So lie down one of those big mats used when painting a room, that completely covers your floor. An easy way to paintwould be to first paint your layer of orange paint, and then use a stencil to trace the polka dots ontp the wall. when the paint dryes you can use thetracings to paint the polka dots. You can keep the stencils on the wall while painting if u like. Keep in mind, you can use different sized stencils forthe polka dots. different sized polka dots will add a nice effect to the room. I hope this helps!

  20. Sierra says:

i want to ask my parents if i can redecorate my room this summer. i have a small room and a lot of hand-me-down clothes and stuff. i want my room to be me. a country girl that loves animals. but my parents said once that i cant change my carpet color or walls. an ugly dark brown carpet and tan walls with white on it. do u have any suggestions on how to convince my parents to let me redecorate my room and tips for cool desighns?

    • Sierra says:

i also want alot of cabinets for my stuff. i also have alot of posters and pictures on my walls. my favorite colors are blue and green. is lime green carpeting and white walls or light blue carpeting and white walls a good idea?

    • Meg says:

Sierra, I think if you maturally talk to your parents about the matter, showing them you get their reason to not let you paint, but that you would like to paint beacause. . ., I think they’ll come to an understanding and let you re-paint and re-carpet your walls and floors.
If you have a small room, the colors you suggested would work wonders @ opening up your room, and make it look awesome as well! I suggest you go w/ Light Sky Blue walls, Lime green carpeting, and then add a White flokati rug from pbteen.com- that’d look Gr8!!! Sky Blue, Lime Green, and Decorator’s White will be your color scheme. Stick to it and your room will look gr8. The colors you’ve chosen aren’t very country, but you can add splashes of country flare throughout your room if you like. As for your love of animals, i suggest you take some pics of you pets (if you have some), and hang them up in white frames in your room. If you don’t have any pets however, you can print out pictures of animals off of google, and frame those as well. And if your artistic, you could try drawing some of your favorite animals, and framing them in your room too! For less cluttered looking walls, i suggest you take downsome of those pics and posters, and frame the rest. Now here are some design tips:
      -Stick to your color scheme.
-Show off your personality w/ decorative pillows on your bed and seating area(s).
-Your parents might not agree to cabinets, but other options for storage, would be cubbies, shelves for displaying items, or even a dresser! I don’t just use my dresser for clothes, I put old toys, videos and dvds, and ,many other items in my dresser. It makes for a gr8, pretty looking storage system!
-If you have stuffed animals, don’t be afraid to show them off on your bed! It’s not considered babyish, if you have a favorite teddy bear on your bed! And considering you love animals, it’s a key way to show off your personality! Just dopn’t over do it, or it’ll look to cluttered.
-Adding a big mirror on one of your walls will open up the space.
-Lastly, the right lighting can help make a room appear more spacious. I suggest you purchase some from pbteen.com. They’re available in blue, white, and green, and in large & small sizes.
So, I hope this helps Sierra! Good luck w/ the rents!

  21. Kanika says:

hi….i’ve got a room….with all the furniture….i need to put sum accessories in it….plzzz help!!my room doesn’t look gud at all….as it was earlier my parents’ room!

    • Meg says:

Hi Kanika! Do you have a color scheme in your room? If so, use accesories that follow that color scheme. If not, use accesories to define a color scheme. If you don’t like the floors, get a wall to wall rug, or one that fits the room to your likings, f you don’t like the walls, ask your parents if you can have your walls painted. If that’s a no-go, then ask if you can get wallpaper for your room. Granted, it may not be the same as painting, but these days wallpaper comes in zillions of prints and colors, so if that’s your only option, i promise u won’t b stuck w/ grandma’s wall paper. You can even get fur wallpaper! Anywho, I hope this helps!

  22. Jewlz says:

try something with green because some people dont like pink at all!!!!

  23. Diara says:

Im moving and i have brown carpet and whitish walls. i need help deciding on what to change the colors to. Im 14 years old and a girl of cousrse and i need help

    • Meg says:

Ok, Diara, you are sUPER lucky, cuz tons of teen girls wold love to start w/ a clean slate for their new room design. First of all, are you a girly girl who luvs pink? If so, the priority colors for your room could be: a. Pink and Orange b. Pink and Green or c. Pink and purple. My room is Pink and Green w/ the accent colors deep lavendar, and blue. If your not so much a girly girl, You could do the folowing Priority colors: a. Purple and Pool b. Green and Blue c. blue and purple, or c. purple and green. Now, the gr8 things about these colors is that whatever two you choose for the priority colors, you can add any two of the other colors above as accent colors. Whatever you choose, I’m sure It will look gr8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. i need a new room makeover very badly.i am entering those pre-teen years and got a new makeover room almost three summers ago. i just dont know what colors would be good for me. i like girly colors but, sometimes pink is just too girly. my room feels tinier and tinier each day. i have a small closet and i honestly need more room because i love to shop.i am almost twelve please give me ideas!!!

    • Sydney says:

you know even i feel most of the time that pink is girlie and most of it i dont…..calm down lock ur self up somewhere or go where u feel most at ease and think just think calm…. when u think imagine the colours that you relly like whether they’re dull or boring or really, really stupid. trust me once u find out ur dream colours ur brains gonna do the thinking and u’ll find the right furniture to go with it or the right way to redecorate it. JUST DONT CHOOSE SOMETHING DARK OR TOO BRIGHT ‘CAUSE YOU’LL START HAVING HEADACHES AFTER A WHILE AND IT’LL SEEM DULL AND BORING AFTER A WHILE AND U’LL REALLY COME TO HATE UR ROOM..:)

    • Meg says:

ok, I’ve got a lot of ideas so I’m just gonna let you know them as quick as i can. If you don’t want pink to be the main color, have it be an accent color, and have your main colors be lavendar (girly, but subtle) and a nice grass green. (btw, a light bubblegum pink) If your room feels small, paint it in light colors to make it feel bigger. You could alternate Between grass green and lavendar, or you could do a solid of just one of those colors. Just to let you know, you don’t neccesarily need one, but I think it would just make the room if you added a flokati rug from pbeen.com. You could get it in any of your color scheme colors- pale pink, lavendar, or pale green. Now, more ways to open-up your room would be- 1) add lanterns from Pbteen.com also. I suggest you get a small white and a large Green to balance out the room just nicely. and 2) Add a mirror. Get a large one and place it on a wall like above a vanity. It’ll help show off the light in the room, and will make both things a focal point.
Since you say your closet is packed, I suggest u ask ur parents to purchase u sum “Huggable Hangers” from HSN. You can get them in an array of colors, and Get the handle in Silver or Gold. And since you probably need more space for clothes, I suggest you get a multi funtional piece for your room. Bcuz it’s small, peices that can doble up, for multi use, will help save on space. This multi funtional piece would be a dresser for xtra clothes storage. If u don’t already have on, get one. Then get a long pillow w/ a cover that matches your color scheme, place it on top of your dresser along w/ sum decorative pillows, and Viola! You,ve got a Dresser, A Reading Seat, and Extra seating for guests! All in one! Another Multi Funtional piece i suggest is your desk, Place it below your mirror, and double it up forbeauty so you have a desk/vanity. One last piece to double up would be your bed. Under bed storage is perfect if your low on space. I don’t mean just shove stuff under your bed though! Use old shoe boxes to store things you don’t use too often under your bed neatly. And, since you probably have 50 pairs of shoes (like me!), you’ll probably want xtra storage for those too! I thibnk you should get an Under The Bed Shoe organizer w/ a zip up top. It’ll keep your shoes, organized, and they won’t get dusty at all! So those are my ideas, and i very much hope they’re of help to you!

  25. Ashley says:

My room is quite small and i want to mayk it look girly with polka dots and funky thngs how should i without maing a drastic change also i put nyc things on my desk which is girly (fa trinket box jewelry case newtons cradle)is dahh okaii plz tell me az i am stcuk 4 an idea by dahh waiiz im 12

    • Meg says:

Well, if your room is small, and you want it to look bigger and girly,i suggest you paint your walls a nice light bubblegum pink, and go just a shade deeper for the polka dots. Lighter color givesthe appearance of alarger roomand if u do big polka dots, it’ll also make the room seem bigger. If you want a funky look too, I suggest you try a nice contrasting color, like light green in the room. Oh, and zebra pattern is gr8! u can get awesome green zebra pattern sheets from pbteen.com, which would look awesome w/ a pink and orange duet cover and quilt. The have awesome pink and orange polka dotted beeding. I’ll name what there called: 1) Pink and Orange Dottie Quilt and Sham 2)Pink and Orange Bubble Duvet Cover and Sham, and 3)Green Zebra Sheet Set. Those will look both girl and funky together, and will continue w/ the bubble/polka dot theme. The right lighting will also make your room look bigger, so i suggest some lanterns from pbteen.com in green and hotpink! So cool!Anywho, If you wanna continue w/ this color scheme, i think you should get a pale green flokati rug from pbteen.com also. It would match perfectly! Now since your a girly girl, you probably have a ton of jewelry, clothes and make-up. If you have a dresser, I think you should put all your jewelry and make-up stuff on top, andthen place a mirror above so you have a whole get ready center, Plus, the mirror will open up your room more, so it seems more spacious. Since u have a lot of NYC stuff, I think a Paris Eiffel Tower Mural from pbteen.com would fit gr8 in your room. Paris andNY r both very hig end, classy cities, and I think a Paris/NYC feel to the room would look gr8, and grow w/ you as your tastes change. I hope this helps!

  26. Morgan says:

    okay my bed sheets are
    blue green pink and orange
My mom is letting me paint it
I have bue and pink crutions
and someone give me an idea or website to go to
    Thanks

    • Meg says:

Okay, so i see you like color! Since you sheets are very colorful, I think you should stick w/ a plain pink quilt. You should paint each wall a differnt color- one blue, one green, one pink, and one orange. To check out some cool stuff for your room, go to pbteen.com. Hope this helps!

  27. Alice says:

I live in an apartment with white walls, so I’m not really allowed to do much. My room isn’t very big and because my ceilings are so high [nine-foot ceilings], the wall above my bed is very plain. I put a photograph of London above on the wall in hopes it would balance it out a little, but it just looks misplaced. I want a cool way to decorate the wall that is modern but doesn’t make it look cluttered.

My room is mostly white so it’ll look bigger than it is. My bed is white and light green, but other than that, there isn’t much of a color scheme. How do I decorate my wall [and my room] to make it less cluttered? If it helps, I’m 16 years old and I’m really into music and creative photography.

    • Selby says:

I know with most apartments, you really can’t paint or hang things on the walls. You can do a really creative headboard that doubles as a photo gallery for your photos. Depending on how wide your bed is, take several tall planks of wood. You could even use old doors hinged together or several large pieces of thick cork board. Then you can use foam padding and staple coordinating material on them to match your bedding or curtains. Or stain or paint the planks or doors, depending on your preference. Make sure you have a well-ventilated area for staining or painting. Let them dry thoroughly. Lean them against your wall or secure them, if allowed. If you lean them, allow enough space from the wall at the bottom where they will be sturdy and not topple over. Then you will have a base where you can hang your favorite framed photos. You could also frame posters and hang them on it too. I hope this helped.

    • megan says:

take pictures and get some sheet music to spread out along the walls. put up some pics of you an friends. also decorate with pillows blankets etc.

      have fun with it

    • Meg says:

ok, so i have some really good ides for u! i’m really into interior design, so i think this’ll really help! first of all if you’ve ever heard of florida key lime pie, you’ll get what I’m saying. I see a florida keys theme for your room and a nice light lime green, and creme color scheme. for an accent color, a nice daffodil yellow. w/ tall ceilings, there are a lot of cool effects u can do w/ lighting. get a big floor lamp, and place it near a reading corner bed, whereever u could use extra light. if you’re into photography, take a picture of some place that has lush greenery, blow it up, mat it, and frame it. If you hang it above your bed, it will provide even more of a larger effect along with the wall’s color. other possibiliteies to consider for pics would be, a lily, or maybe a picture of big white puffy clouds in a light blue sky. any one of those will provide a relaxing, calming, and cool enviorment for your rooom. lastly, considering you like music, try taking sum black and white photography of sheet music, instruments ( if u play one, do that), and if you’re any artistic, try drawing a musical note, matting and framing it, and mounting it on ur wall, that’d look really cool, and bring your own personality into the room. oh, and try getting a flokati rug to fit ur room. i suggest a pale green one from pbteen.com. plus, add lots of pillows to ur bed that match the color scheme. it’ll add the comfort effect, and make the bed a focal point in the room. now lastly (and i mean it this time) get a large wall mirror, and mount it on one of your walls. It’ll look gr8 trust me, and it’ll alsohelp u get ready each and every day. So, that’s it, and i hopr u enjoy my ideas!

    • Megs says:

oh, it’s me again and i forgot to add sumthing. if you want less clutter on walls and in your room, add shelves to your walls. you can put any knick knacks lying around in your room on them, pics of friends, and whatever u want really! it’ll clean up your room, and your walls! to match the florida keys theme, i think a nice honey wood will contrast perfectly! if not, then a simple white would work fine as well. also, add storage! a simple storage system, like an inexspensive storage drawer set. stacking 2 or 3 cubbies from the floor up, would look great too. You could even paint them according to your color scheme. one, light lime green, one creme, and one a daffodil yellow. i say, if u can’t splash your walls w/ color, bring the color in your room in every way you can!so, i hope this helps too!

    • Meg says:

Yet again, it’s me! lol. another thing to add a splash of color 2 your room, would be a nice throw at the bottom of your bed. i suggest the green dottie blanket from pbteen.com! it’s reversable too! one side is green w/ white dots, the other is white w/green dots. It’d look really pretty w/ the Color Scheme I suggested! Hope this helps as well!

      • Meg says:

i’m sorry if it’s bugging u 2 here from me over and over again, but i just had one last idea for your room. try taking photography of lotus’s. they are a type of water flower that come in really pretty pale colors, and they’ll b sure 2 add serenity, peace, and elegance to your room. to check out a whole theme based on lotus’s, head to betterhomesandgardens.com, and search for their summer 2009 issue of the magazine. then look for teh article, “lotus motifs”. hope this helps!

i want a room like this i still have the same color wall since we moved in which was 10 years ago how do i make my room cute and cheap at the same time????

    • sarah brooke says:

You could look at discount stores or , use some second hand things. Also since you have had the same color for 10 years , you might want to pick a netural color this time , so you can change it up sooner. You could also spray paint furnture.

    • Paris says:

ask your friends if they have something that they are willing to swap for your like you could give them a book and they could give you a pillow. little things like this will set you on your way to a gorgeous room!

    • Paris says:

there are loads of different shades of the colour green and some go and some just don’t
so first look around your room and see what shades would match the items you already own.
second go to a DIY store and ask for sopme sample colours; and paint just a stripe of each next to each other.
‘olive green is really fashionable at the moment for clothes and walls its also very relaxing and very eco-friendly :)

    • Paris says:

first of all i would paint around 30cm of the top of your walls white. this makes the room look bigger and more spacious:) second i would DE-CLUTTER. start in one corner of the room and make your way around with black bin bags slowly start taking babyish and childish things out of your room and sell them on e-bay or have a garage sale to make some pocket money that you might want to spend on more grown-up things :) you may want to make a box of baby things or souvenirs and keep them out of your room (things that you dont want to sell but just clutter the place up) stop buying ‘junk’ that clutters up your room and spend your money on more important things!
TOP TIP – invite a few friends round for the after-noon and ask them to each bring a bag full of UNWANTED items..
      i hope that helped (:

  34. Paris says:

    hello (:
i have a very big room with a balcony and after watching HSM3 i realised that my room would look so good in the fashion of Gabriella’s room.
so i painted the wall blue/teel and left around 30cm at the top white (this makes the room look bigger and more spacious) do you have any other tips on how i can make my room like hers? i have loads of patched quilts like she does and personilized posters:) Thanks Guys.

  36. Mary says:

    Hello,
This site is probably the mst helpful site so far. Well my room is a hot pink and my mom is upset because I’m not that girlie anymore and I wan to adventure. I really want my roomo to be green and blue. Any idas for a pattern?

    • Holly says:

If you can’t change your walls to a more nutral color such as tan or off white, then you can incorporate such greens as lime or neon, if you aren’t in to such brightness you can tune down with more of a chatruse( I think that’s how you spell it). For the blues try a bright color such as royal blue or bright blue. For a more pastel try light blue or carnation blue. Hope this helped!

  37. Holly says:

Okay, I absolutly love the pink zebra theme! Does anyone know where to find that bedding? I’ve googled pink zebra bedding but I can’t find it! Can anyone help me?

  38. Sara says:

    hey,
i was wundering if any one could help me with tips about how to make my bedroom countryish…while still girly….just not too much pink..and the colors im picking around are lime/john deere green, lighter pink(some, cute purple, light/baby blue….ive been looking for room ideas and havent had many…..and my room is super small….

    • Meg says:

You have gr8 ideas sara! Using light colors on your walls will make your room seem so much more spacious. I suggest you get a Flokati Rug from pbteen.com. They have a lot of nice light colors that’d look gr8 in ur room. If you want a country feel, but still girl, hang some country artwork on the walls, For ezample, try and find a pic of pink cowboy boots, and print it out, and hang it on your wall. Also, Maybe a picture of a horse w/ a braded mane or something like that. Both ideas, would show off your country, girly girl personality. If you want some ideas for a small room, check out what I Wrote to “Destiny’s Child” above. Hope this helps!

  39. Maddie says:

hey, i LOVVEE the zebra wallpaper room.
and i showed my mum it and she looked on the web for it but it was really expensive. also if i paint one of my walls hot pink, light pink and maybe a tiny stripe of black with black up the top( like the zebra room) would i get board of it, i really like that room. But i want to get it right becaus my mum said whatever i do now has to stay for a while. i also have to make it match my window seat (green and hotpink) and my blinds (green and hot pink) any i deas on anything or what i should do??? please help!!! =]

    • Meg says:

ok maddie, hot pink and green are AMAZING together. that’s my color scheme actually. Do your bedding that color, accent pillows those colors, and hen do your walls like this: alternate between light pink, and just a shade deeper pink, tehn do a black strip that wraps around your whole room in the middle of your walls. stick to white carpeting, or get a white, wall-to-wall rug for your floor from pbteen.com. use white bcuz teh black will amke ur room seem smaller, but if you use white, it’ll again open up. add a mirror 2 help w/ that as well. hope this helps!

  40. Fay says:

i loove the designs but in my room i have a whole wall full of closet space and my mom wouldnt take them out and my walls are white and i want to add color but im afraid it would look weird if i paint them a solid color. i want to change my room completely any ideas?

  41. Gina says:

Hi, we are in the middle of Re decorating… I have put dark hardwood floors in all our bedrooms… My daughters furniture, which consists of Daybed, 2 dressers, desk and hutch are all white… She loves hot pink, lime green, black, and turquoise..When she seen the room, 3rd from the top she loved it.. My question is What colors did you use in this room… I would love any feedback..

  43. Caitlinnn,x says:

Hey, I’m allowed to change my wall colours and curtains but not my furniture or floor. Anybody got any ideas? I would like a kind of contemporary look, with a little retro somewhere. x

    • Meg says:

ok caitlin, foryour floors, get a wall to wall rug from pbteen.com i suggest. it’ll completely cover up your floors if u get the right size. if you want a contemporary look with a little retro, try ussing retro colors like orange, lime green, and hot pink, but in contemporary ways. for your walls, stay simple, but chic. i suggest a warm, sunny yellow for your walls-it’s a total retro color, and TOTALLY in. retro, all together is coming back, soour in luck. o, and b4 i forget, get the rug in a cool patern like polka dots or stripes, and get one full of color- i suggest the “Water color rug” from pbteen. it has big floral print, is very colroful, and it’s totally retro. plus, floral print is so in right now. now for your room, keep it simple. that’s what’s contemporary right now-simple-, and bcuz ur doing retro, it’ll balance out all the color, and print. white furniture was bcuming [more] popular then, and it’s contemporary as well. if you don’t have white furniture, ask if you can spra paint pieces of furniture in ur room. if that’s a no-go, then use washed out tie die pillows, hot pink, lime green, or orange washed outpillowsb lighter, but will still amtch. you cna buy tie dieing kits at lots of stores, so you could change your whole bedding if you’d liketo. hope this helps!

  44. Kaylee says:

ok, my room needs some major decorating.
I’m not allowed to paint and wallpaper is definately out of the question. Any ideas that are cheap but stlyish? I’m sixteen, if that helps… hehe

    • Meg says:

okay, so kaylee, here’s what u can do: get fabric in the colro of your preference and to the size of your walls (you’ll have to measure), then hang it up w/ a staple gun, or large nails or tacs. for flooring, get a wall to wall rug, i suggest from pbteen.com. hope this helps!

  45. jen says:

hi, i want to change the colour of my room, but i can’t decide on a color scheme. My room is big, but it has sloping walls, so I don’t know wether to go for dark or light. I also have a terracotta suite in my room and I’m not sure what colors will go with it. Please help!

    • Meg says:

okay, so first things first jen: if u have a small room, ALWAYS stick 2 light colors for the walls, and your room’s primary color(s). dark colors make ur room seem even SMALLER than it actually is, but light colros create open, wider seeming rooms. you could have darker accenting colors, but only use them in small portions throughout teh room, to keep the “open” feel. i’m not sure what a terracotta suite is, but write back, and then i’ll help u w/ that. ciao!

  46. shelbi says:

hey, im turning 15. and i just moved to a new house not to long ago! and my mom has decided to let me decorate my room however i want! i was thinking about a canopy bed, and the colors bubble gum pink, and a light pale green!(: but i like change, which makes me hesitate on the colors. because i know that i will change my mind in a couple of months. i was woundering if you could help me out!(:

    • Meg says:

i can help ya shelbi! those colros work well together, but if u can’t make up ur mind, try adding some accent colors- like mayb yellow, plue, or purple. if you incoorperate them in the room a little, tehn you will be able to easily convert them to teh primary colors of ur room. alsio, if ur unsure about a canopy, get a regular bed, then get a ceiling hanging canopy from pbteen.com. bcuz it hangs on the ceiling u can take it on and off as u pleez. hope this helps!

  47. kelsey says:

i love the LOVE TO DANCE room but i will prefer a heart or horse room

    THANK YOU

    LOVE KELSEY

    • Meg says:

not sure if u want help, but if you love to dance, but prefer a heart or horse room, try putting up a picture on your wall that says, i heart dance (use a heart shape, not the word). then you could do a heart theme about how you love to dance! and you can still incooperate horses as well. just make up a picture that says i heart horses, and put that on your walls as well. hang some ballerina shoes (if you do ballet) on one of ur bed posts, put horse figurines and knick-knacks around your room, and put a stuffed horse on ur bed! check out pbteen.com for a mural of a dancer, or of a horse 9i’m pretty sure they have a horse). on pbteen, u can also get letters that’ll cling to your wall. put inspirational sayings on them about your love of dance, horses, ect. order teh letters you need to write what u wanna say, them put em up on ur walls. hope this helps!

      • Meg says:

alos, for ur color scheme, choose colors like fushia, light pink, and pale greens, as well as peaches, and mochas. the pinks will go well w/ dance, the mochas will contrats top horses, and the fushias will help w/ hearts. the pale green will make a nice accent color!

  48. Brownie says:
